Lincoln Electric UltraCore 71A85 Gas-Shielded Flux-Cored Welding Wire Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Flux-Cored Welding Wire

Flux-cored welding wire is a tubular wire filled with flux and alloying agents, giving higher deposition rates, deeper penetration and better out-of-position performance than solid wire. It is a favourite for structural steel, shipbuilding, heavy fabrication and pipe welding where productivity matters. Gas-shielded rutile types classified under AWS A5.20 such as E71T-1 run smoothly in all positions with a slag that supports the pool, while metal-cored and self-shielded wires such as E71T-8 or E71T-GS suit outdoor work where gas shielding would blow away.

Gas-shielded wires normally use CO2 or argon-CO2 mixtures, and the process demands a power source with adequate duty cycle and a wire feeder with knurled drive rolls. Low-temperature nickel-bearing grades such as E71T-1 Ni1 and stainless types like E308LT1-1 and E309LT1-1 extend the range to cryogenic and corrosion-resistant duties.

Seven Star LLC supplies flux-cored wire from LongTeng, Lincoln Electric and Kobelco, with Muscat-based support. Compare with solid welding wire for cleaner, spatter-free welds, or submerged arc welding wire for thick flat plate. Machines are listed in MIG/MAG welding machines and multi-process welding machines; see all welding consumables.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is flux-cored welding wire?
It is a hollow wire filled with flux and alloying elements. The flux forms slag and, in self-shielded types, gas, which protects the weld and allows high deposition rates.
What is the difference between gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wire?
Gas-shielded wire needs an external shielding gas and gives better weld quality and appearance. Self-shielded wire needs no gas and works better outdoors in wind, but typically has different mechanical properties and more fume.
Can flux-cored wire be used out of position?
Rutile gas-shielded types such as E71T-1 are designed for all-position welding. Check the manufacturer data sheet for the position limits of each wire.
Do flux-cored wires need slag removal?
Yes, they leave a slag that must be removed between passes and before final inspection. Metal-cored wires leave much less slag.
Can I run flux-cored wire on my existing MIG machine?
Many MIG machines can, provided they have the right polarity, drive rolls for tubular wire and sufficient output. Check the machine specification and wire recommendation.
