Hypertherm Powermax105 SYNC Plasma Cutting System Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Plasma Cutting Systems

Plasma cutting systems use a constricted, ionised gas arc to cut electrically conductive metals including carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium faster and with a narrower kerf than oxy-fuel. They are standard equipment in fabrication shops, shipyards, steel service centres and maintenance workshops in Oman and the GCC, for plate profiling, pipe cutting, gouging and repair.

Select a system by the maximum clean cut thickness and severance thickness you need, the duty cycle, the input power, and whether the application is handheld or mechanised on a CNC table. Compressed-air systems suit general cutting, while higher-quality cutting of stainless or aluminium uses nitrogen or other process gases. Clean, dry air is essential, and consumables such as electrodes and nozzles wear and need regular replacement. Fume extraction and proper eye protection are needed, see welding helmets and face protection.

Seven Star LLC supplies plasma systems from manufacturers such as Hypertherm. Compare with oxy-fuel cutting equipment for thick carbon plate, and use pipe cutting and bevelling machines for pipe end preparation. Cut edges are often finished before welding with solid welding wire or other filler. All are listed under welding equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials can plasma cut?
Any electrically conductive metal, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium and copper alloys.
How is plasma different from oxy-fuel cutting?
Plasma is faster on thin and medium plate and cuts non-ferrous metals. Oxy-fuel is suited to thick carbon steel and uses no electricity.
What gas does plasma cutting use?
Compressed air is common for general work. Nitrogen, oxygen or mixed gases are used for higher quality on specific metals.
What is severance thickness?
It is the maximum thickness the system can cut through, even if the edge quality is rough. Clean cut thickness is lower.
What consumables wear out?
Electrodes, nozzles and swirl rings wear with use and should be replaced as the manufacturer advises.
