Oxy-Fuel Cutting Equipment

Oxy-fuel cutting equipment burns a fuel gas such as acetylene or propane in oxygen to heat steel to ignition temperature, then a jet of pure oxygen oxidises and blows away the metal. It remains the most economical way to cut thick carbon and low-alloy steel plate, from about 6 mm up to several hundred millimetres, and is widely used in shipyards, steel fabrication, scrapping and demolition and plant maintenance across Oman and the GCC. It does not cut stainless steel or aluminium effectively, which need plasma.

A complete set includes oxygen and fuel gas regulators, hoses, cutting torch, nozzles or tips, flashback arrestors and check valves, plus gas cylinders handled with caps and chains. Tip size is matched to plate thickness, and safety devices are essential: flashback arrestors on both gas lines at the regulator and at the torch protect against dangerous reverse flow. Heat and sparks require suitable protection such as welding helmets and face protection.

Seven Star LLC supplies oxy-fuel components for industrial users. For faster thin and medium plate cutting and for stainless see plasma cutting systems, and for pipe ends see pipe cutting and bevelling machines. Cut edges are often cleaned before welding with weld cleaning and passivation tools. The full group is under welding accessories and safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can oxy-fuel cut?
It cuts carbon and low-alloy steel, especially thick plate. It does not cut stainless steel or aluminium effectively.
Why are flashback arrestors needed?
They stop a flame travelling back into hoses and regulators, which can cause fires or explosions. They are a key safety item.
Acetylene or propane?
Acetylene gives a hotter flame and faster piercing, while propane is cheaper and widely used for cutting. Choose by application and tip design.
How do I choose a cutting tip?
Tip size is chosen by material thickness and the fuel gas, following the manufacturer chart.
Is oxy-fuel better than plasma?
Oxy-fuel is better for very thick carbon steel and needs no electricity, while plasma is faster on thin and medium plate and cuts stainless and aluminium.
