Orbitalum ORBIWELD 17 Micro Orbital Weld Head Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Orbital Pipe Welding Systems

Orbital pipe welding systems rotate a sealed or open arc head around a stationary pipe or tube, mechanising the TIG (GTAW) process to deliver consistent, repeatable welds that are fully programmable. They are used where weld integrity, cleanliness and traceability matter most: high-purity and process tubing, power-plant boiler tubing, nuclear and semiconductor lines, desalination plant pipework and offshore oil and gas piping. Welding parameters are stored and replayed, which cuts variability between welders and shortens qualification.

Systems usually include a programmable power source, a weld head (closed chamber for small-diameter tube or open head for larger pipe), a gas management setup and, for pipe, an internal purge. Selection depends on tube or pipe diameter range, wall thickness, material (stainless, duplex, nickel alloys), joint preparation and whether hot wire or filler wire is needed. Accurate end preparation is vital, so pair with pipe cutting and bevelling machines.

Seven Star LLC can supply orbital welding systems through its manufacturers and advise on selection. For manual alternatives see TIG welding machines; for materials see stainless steel filler metals and duplex and nickel alloy filler metals. Preheat-sensitive jobs may also use induction heating and preheating. The range sits under welding equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is orbital welding?
It is a mechanised TIG process where the arc rotates around a fixed pipe or tube, with parameters controlled by a programmable power source.
Why use orbital welding?
It gives consistent weld quality, reduces dependence on welder skill and records parameters for quality documentation.
What materials can it weld?
Stainless steel, duplex, nickel alloys, titanium and carbon steel are commonly welded, subject to the procedure.
Does it need special joint preparation?
Yes. Precise square or bevelled ends are needed, so use proper cutting and bevelling tools.
What size range is covered?
Systems range from small-diameter tube to larger pipe depending on the weld head chosen. Check the head specification.
