Miller ProHeat 35 Induction Heating System Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Induction Heating & Preheating

Induction heating and preheating equipment raises metal to a controlled temperature using electromagnetic induction, delivering fast, uniform, repeatable heat directly in the workpiece. In welding it is used for preheat and interpass temperature control on thick-wall pipe, chrome-moly steels such as P22 and P91, pressure vessels and heavy plate, and for post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) and stress relief. Across Oman and the GCC, it is valued on power-plant, refinery and pipeline projects where codes require documented heat cycles.

Compared with gas torches or resistance heating mats, induction heats faster, uses energy more efficiently, reduces heating time and avoids open flames in hazardous areas. Typical systems include a power source, flexible induction cables or blankets and thermocouple-based controllers with data recording to prove the cycle. Selection depends on pipe diameter and wall thickness, required temperature range, power supply and cable length.

Preheating is especially important for low alloy and chrome-moly filler metals and thick sections welded with submerged arc welding wire. Seven Star LLC supplies heating equipment through its manufacturers; pair with stick (MMA) welding machines or orbital pipe welding systems as needed. The full group is under welding equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is preheating required?
Preheat slows cooling, reducing hydrogen cracking risk in thick or hardenable steels. The procedure sets the temperature.
What is PWHT?
Post-weld heat treatment is a controlled heating and cooling cycle used to relieve stress and temper the weld, required by many codes.
How does induction compare with resistance heating?
Induction usually heats faster and more efficiently, while resistance mats are simple and widely used. The choice depends on the job.
Can heat cycles be recorded?
Yes, most controllers log thermocouple data, giving a record for quality documentation.
Which steels need preheat?
Chrome-moly steels such as P22 and P91, thick carbon steel and some alloys, depending on code and thickness.
