Operating Principle
The CFP708-4 monitors its two detector zone circuits for alarm and fault conditions, driving up to four conventional sounder circuits when an alarm threshold is reached. Its engineering functions include selectable zone delays, coincidence detection (requiring signals from more than one detector before triggering a full alarm), and non-latching zone options, giving installers flexibility to tune the panel’s response to the building’s actual fire risk profile and reduce nuisance alarms.
Two on-board relays (Fire and Fault) and two open-collector outputs (Remote and Reset) let the panel interface with external systems such as building management systems, remote signaling equipment, or auxiliary alarm devices, extending its function beyond the panel enclosure itself.
Engineering Design of the CFP708-4
The panel is built with an integral 1.5A EN54-4/A2 compliant switch-mode power supply and space for two 12V 3.3Ah VRLA batteries, providing standby power in line with the EN54 standard’s requirements for fire alarm system resilience. Its low 25mA quiescent current keeps standby battery drain minimal, supporting the required standby duration without oversized batteries.
The system supports expansion through up to eight two-wire repeaters (requiring one CFP761 network card per system), along with optional CFP relay boards and EN54-13 compliant sounder circuit boards from the BSI, allowing a basic 8-zone installation to grow into a larger networked fire detection and alarm system as a building’s needs change.
