The CC88A communications processor is a module for connecting the IDS 850 system to a local network (LAN). It also has four serial interfaces on which various coupling protocols can be run. The serial interfaces support the communication standards IEC 60870-5-101/103 and Modbus Master. The network interface can be operated in accordance with IEC 60870-5-104 server and client or alternatively via IEC 61850 server and client. In addition to being used as a “pure” CC88A, the module can also be operated in a mode compatible with the previous model CC86A. The module consists of two boards: The base board contains all operating and display elements, the network, communication and parameterization/diagnostic interfaces, the connection to the system bus as well as parts of the memory (SRAM) and a real-time clock (RTC). The daughterboard contains the processor core with an MPC852T PowerPC, the flash and SDRAM memory and the complete functional logic.
