The EC86A network controller is used for connection via Ethernet (LAN) and serial interfaces (WAN). The 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet connection can be made via shielded Category 5 cable or via LWL-100FX. The connection is made via a front-side RJ45 socket or a front-side fiber optic connector. In addition to the service interface, three further serial interfaces are available on the front; one of these is permanently connected as V.28 via RJ45 socket and two more via 15-pin Sub-D connectors. The 15-pin interfaces can be used for V.28, X.21, G.703 (2048 Kbit/s), ISDN and others using appropriate plug-in modules. A third synchronous interface can be implemented using an additional adapter card (KP2A1), so that one EC86A DKS node with three long-distance lines is possible. LEDs on the front display the status of the card and the individual processes. Eight configurable LEDs can be assigned via software.
