Couplants

Couplants are specialized ultrasonic media designed to eliminate air gaps between a transducer and the test surface, allowing clean and efficient sound transmission into the material. Without a proper couplant, ultrasonic waves reflect at the surface instead of penetrating the structure—which results in weak signals, noisy A-scans, and inaccurate measurements.

This category includes low-viscosity gels, water-based compounds, high-temperature couplants, and specialized formulations for rough, curved, or coated surfaces. Couplants are essential in corrosion surveys, precision thickness measurement, weld inspection, bolt tension monitoring, and any application where stable acoustic coupling ensures reliable and repeatable NDT results.
