Overview

The KROHNE OPTIMASS 6400 is the standard high-performance Coriolis mass flowmeter for the process industry. Measurement Principle

The OPTIMASS 6400 is the first Coriolis mass flowmeter to feature advanced Entrained Gas Management (EGM), maintaining measurement with no loss even with gas entrainment up to 100% of volume. Unlike other mass flowmeters where relative movement between gas and fluid dampens the amplitude of the measuring tube and interferes with the electronics’ capability to determine the actual resonant frequency, the OPTIMASS 6400 with EGM follows varying fluid conditions and adapts the tube driver oscillations accordingly, continuing to present an actual measured reading together with a configurable alarm.

The meter is factory-fitted with an extensive diagnostics package that monitors not only the flowmeter itself but also the process and process conditions, recording temperature, density, concentration, speed, and state of the medium every fraction of a second. This allows gas as well as solid inclusions to be identified, along with installation errors or changes in driver amplitude, giving operators complete visibility into both the meter and the process.

Engineering Design of the OPTIMASS 6400

The OPTIMASS 6400 is available in DN 08 to 100 (DN 150 to 250 pending) and in three sensor materials: 316L stainless steel, Hastelloy C-22, and Duplex UNS S31803. Built on three decades of KROHNE experience in bent self-draining tube design, the sensor uses proven, patented flow splitter technology that provides minimum pressure loss, is self-draining when mounted vertically, and is FDA compliant with 3-A, EHEDG, and ASME Bioprocessing certifications.

The OPTIMASS 6400 is the world’s first Coriolis mass flowmeter allowing secure wireless access via Bluetooth or remotely via HART in safety-related applications, with device commissioning, verification, diagnostics, and monitoring possible via a secure wireless Bluetooth connection (under 20m/65.6 ft). It carries SIL 2/3 certification up to DN200/8″, with partial proof test coverage up to 82%, and communicates via HART 7, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus-PA/DP, PROFINET (including Ethernet-APL), and EtherNet/IP. Custody transfer accuracy reaches the highest OIML class of 0.3, with optional mass flow accuracy to ±0.05% of measured value.
